Welcome to the homepage
of Cantitores!

Cantitores is a mixed show-choir in Hämeenlinna, Finland. The name comes from Latin, the meaning being something like Ditty Singers. At the moment we have eighteen members, many of whom have earlier been singing with other choirs in Hämeenlinna, like the female choir Laulu-Siukut and the male choir Hämeenlinnan Mieskuoro. The conductor is Mr. Jussi Tamminen, chairwoman Ms. Susanna Korhonen and secretary Ms. Birgitta Hiltunen (See Contact info).

The choir was founded on April Fools' Day in 1998, mainly for the reason that there was a plan to have a national competition for the show-choirs in Hämeenlinna in June 1998 and there was no local choir specialized in that kind of music. The first attempt did'nt yield any price, but the following year we took the second place and the challence cup for the "Sunny Choir" which changed in 2002 to the "Golden Choir" cup. In 2004 we finally won the whole contest. In 2007 we participated in the Seasong Festival of Kotka City, winning second prize in the choir and ensemble category. In 2015 we visited Barcelona Choir Festival where we were rewarded with the price of best performance.

Our repertoire consists mainly of domestic and foreign light music, including evergreens like White Christmas, Moon River, Moonlight Serenade, In The Still Of The Night, Aloha Oe, Blue Hawaii, Blue Moon, Teddy Bears' Picnic, Twilight Time, Summertime, Memory, What A Wonderful World, La Mer, On Top Of The World, etc. For the list of our songs click Laulut.

Besides numerous places in Finland, from Helsinki to Kuusamo and our home town we have given concerts in Spain, Italy and Estonia.

Rehearsals are held on Wednesdays at Stone Gallery Lunnikivi starting from 06:00 p.m.
